The Future of Uncertainty is an improvised classical guitar solo recorded on a Zoom H-2 recorder. Please excuse the flubs. The video is a combination of a trip through a cave and an electrical storm at twilight.

    Hi Chris,

    thanks for your answers. I have the Garritan Libraries (orchestra, Cello, Steinway, …) including Kontakt since several years. So this is not the problem. I will have a look at pianoteq.

    I ran into problems when I tried to tune my self build clavichord to different scales. The tuning itself was not really a problem. When I tuned to Werckmeister, I couldn’t remember how it sounded before. So this is one of my ideas to run different scales via Midi side by side 😉 to hear the differences.

    2.2 I thought so.

    3. I will play around and if a scale suites me I will try to refret one of my guitars 😉

    Hi Hajo,

    Glad to try to answer your questions:

    1) Garritan is relatively inexpensive but a bit fussy with the controller data it wants. On the other hand the value per cost ration is excellent. Next I would recommend kontakt and then pianoteq.

    2.1) I would recommend purchasing a copy of the Just Intonation Primer by Doty as a good place for understanding some basic concepts. Also the Xenharrnic Wiki is a good resource.

    2.2) As far as I know there are no books written specifically about microtonal composition as of yet. Part of the fun for me is figuring out the new rules. Composing microtonally really isn’t that hard if you let you ears guide you – voice leading is still there regardless of the tuning system.

    3.) In general you need to re-fret your guitar to play microtonally – a big exception is using a slide and learning to make consistent string bends.

    I am starting with micro tonal music and bought the book “Music and Mathematics”
    Three questions, when allowed:
    1. I read about the software you use: Garritan, Absynth, …
    Is there a recommondation about what software to use as a starter to try other tunings microtonal or classical scales as Werckmeister, Kellner, … with midi.
    2. Are there books about microtonal composition?
    3. Guitar and microtonal tuning: Did you modify your fretboard?
